This is book 22 in the Little Duck Pond Café series, but as usual, it can be read as a standalone. The chapters in this one are written from the viewpoints of Ruby and Jaz.
Ruby Watkiss works in a bakery. She lives with her boyfriend Hudson Holmes, who owns an interior design company. Ruby is suspicious of Hudson’s new assistant Joanna Vickers and is trying to work out flirty Jo’s intentions towards Ruby’s boyfriend.
Ruby and Hudson go on holiday to Port Castleton, a little seaside village in Wales, hoping to spend some quality time together as a couple – to get some sun, sea and strawberry shortcake.
Jaz lives with Harry, their daughter Emma and new puppy Luna. But Jaz has recently become suspicious of how much time Harry is spending with Vivien.
I really enjoyed this story. The characters are all very realistic and I like following their lives through the series of books. I really sympathised with Ruby and Jaz not knowing if their partners were straying or not.
Most of the story is set in Wales and there are a few mysteries to solve there, which were great. I felt really invested in working out what was happening, who was behind it and why. I really liked Bee and her daughter Jodie and was interested in following their story too. As for characters you love to hate, Joanna is brilliantly infuriating!!
Another great read in the series!
Sun, Sea & Strawberry Shortcake
It was meant to be a gloriously romantic getaway in Wales for Ruby and Hudson. That was the plan, anyway. But then friends start inviting themselves along, lured by the idea of unwinding in a chocolate-box pretty cottage, wandering the lanes and the coastline, soaking up the sun and the stunningly beautiful Italian-inspired architecture. With Ellie, Jaz, Fen and Madison popping up around every corner, plus another sinister mystery to solve, will the lovebirds ever find time to indulge their desire for sun, sea and . . . strawberry shortcake?
