The Hiding Place by Jenny Quintana

The story begins in 1991 with Marina, who is 27. She was abandoned as a baby and adopted by David and Ruth. She decides to move into the house she was found in, to see if she can answer some of the questions she has about her background. Her story continues into 1992.

The other timeline is in 1964, where Connie discovers she is pregnant at 17. She lives with her father and works in his bookshop, after her mother had died aged 40.

Both parts of the story are interesting and the 1960s feels authentic too. I enjoyed learning about all the different characters and their relationships to each other, as well as the connections between both timelines. Connie even has a black and white cat called Socks, like we do!

It is a family drama, full of mystery and secret hidden for decades. I enjoyed reading the book and finding the answers to all the questions it brings up.
